DESCRIPTION
Poly Fiber-EF Hot Applied Sealant is formulated with selected
polymer modified asphalts and pre-treated dimensionally stable polyester (DSP) fibers in a proprietary blend consisting of a
minimum 5% fibers by weight.
This construction grade material is a hot applied, one part sealant that provides excellent results under extremely varying conditions of bituminous pavements. Poly Fiber-EF is perfect for use in overband applications that are susceptible to tracking and picking up, such as pedestrian foot traffic and vehicle power steering.
• Good bonding characteristics
• Easy flow application
• Passes multiple freeze and thaw cycles

POLYESTER FIBRE DATA
Pre-treated Dimensionally Stable Polyester (D.S.P.) fibers are high modulus low shrinkage fibers for use in industrial hot melt
applications calling for high performance re-enforcement.
D.S.P. fibers demonstrate excellent dimensional, thermal and
chemical stability, virtually no moisture absorption, high strength, outstanding abrasion resistance, tenacity and toughness. Pre-
treated in an adhesive activated version for excellent mixing and
application of rubber hot melt systems.

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES of D.S.P. FIBERS

Length 6.4 mm ± 0.05 mm
Crimps (D 3937) None
Tensile strength (D2256) 480 MPa min.
Denier (D1577) 3.0 to 6.0
Specific gravity 1.32 to 1.40
Melting temperature 470 °F (245 °C) min.
Ignition temperature 1004 °F (540 °C) min.

EQUIPMENT
Use an agitated oil-jacketed unit that has separate temperature gauges for both the sealant and the heat transfer fluid. Take the 30 lb. plastic bag of sealant and load into the kettle one at a time. Melt only enough material for the day’s activities. Once melted, additional material can be added as needed. Material can be safely reheated within the sealants service life.
NOTE: Prolonged heating of the sealant above the maximum safe heating temperature may cause it to gel in the kettle.

JOINT PREPARATIONS
To facilitate proper adhesion, the joint or crack should be dry and clear of any dirt, dust or other contaminates. Substrate and ambient temperatures must be 40ºF or above. Proper sizing of the joint will cause the maximum extension/compression to not exceed 50% of the width. Joints or random cracks of ¼” or less are difficult to properly clean prior to applying the sealant.

SERVICE LIFE
The service life (“pot-life”) at application temperatures is approximately 12 hours. Adding fresh material to the melter as sealant is being used will extend the service life. Material that has been overheated can thicken and gel in the melter. Any material that has exceeded the service life should be removed from the melter and discarded.
